A full-day boat trip from Kaş harbour: the sunken city, Simena Castle and the turquoise bays of Kekova — a day trip our Fethiye guests plan regularly.
Kekova is the most unusual of the day trips guests based in Fethiye make for themselves: the walls, staircases and doorways of an ancient settlement that an earthquake dropped into the sea are still visible beneath the surface today. There is nothing else like it on the Mediterranean. As the boat draws close to the shore the ruins slide past a few metres below you, and on a clear day you can pick out exactly where the stone steps disappear into the water. The area is protected, so swimming and diving are not allowed at this point — but watching it from the deck is the most striking way to see it anyway.
The day starts in the morning at Kaş harbour. Once the captain has run through the route and the length of each stop, the boat turns east towards Kekova Island. The first swimming stop comes before you have gone far, in a bay sheltered from the wind — this is where you get your first sense of the water's colour and temperature. After that the stops that give the day its character follow one by one.
Aquarium Bay earns its name: the pale gravel bottom leaves the water looking almost like glass, and you can make out fish from the surface. Lunch is served here, with the boat at anchor. Afterwards you pass in front of the sunken city and then pull in at Kaleköy — Simena in antiquity. No road reaches the village; the houses, the shops and the castle above them can only be reached by sea or on foot. The path up to the castle is short but steep, and at the top you find a small rock-cut Lycian theatre and a view that takes in the whole bay. The sarcophagus standing in shallow water just off the shore is the most photographed detail in the region.
On the way back the boat stops once more, this time in the quieter coves of Kekova Island. At Tersane Bay the remains of Byzantine buildings sit right at the water's edge; the final stop after that is purely for resting and one last swim. We deliberately play no music on board: when the engine goes quiet in a bay, the only sound is the water, and most guests say this is the part of the day they remember best. You are back in Kaş harbour in the late afternoon.

The meeting point is Kaş harbour and guests make their own way there. If you are staying in Kaş, it is walking distance. Coming from the Fethiye side it is roughly a two-hour drive on the D400 coast road, so you will need an early start. We ask you to be at the harbour at least twenty minutes before departure.
No. The Kekova Sunken City is a first-degree archaeological site: swimming, diving and going ashore are all prohibited there. The boat slows down in front of the ruins while the captain explains what you are looking at. Swimming breaks are given at the other stops on the route — you get into the water four times during the day.
Yes. There are life jackets on board for everyone, pool noodles for anyone who wants one, and the crew keeps an eye on the water from the deck during swimming stops. You can also spend the whole day without getting in at all — the bays look just as good from the deck.
Not at all. You get around an hour of free time at Kaleköy, and you can spend it climbing to the castle, browsing the shops along the waterfront or sitting in a café. The path up is rocky and steep in places, so comfortable shoes help. The castle is a museum site with its own entrance fee, which is not included in the tour.
Yes, the route works well for families. Child-size life jackets are on board and swimming stops are in sheltered bays. There is shaded seating on deck for the longer stretches; we suggest bringing a hat and a change of clothes for younger children.
Lunch is cooked on board: chicken or fish as a main, with seasonal salad, mezze and bread. If you are vegetarian or have an allergy, tell us when you book and we will pass it on to the galley in advance. Food and drink cannot be brought aboard from outside; drinks are available from the bar on the boat.
The route runs mostly through water sheltered by islands and bays, so it is calm on most days. If you are prone to seasickness, have a light breakfast, sit somewhere on deck where you can see the horizon, and take your medication before setting off.
If the tour cannot run safely we let you know in advance and move it to the first suitable day; if your schedule does not allow that, we cancel it. Wind or currents can also change the order of the stops on a given day, or send us to a more sheltered bay instead of a planned one. That call is always the captain's.
