Reaching the top of Babadağ no longer means jumping off it with a parachute or spending hours on a dirt track. Enclosed cabins leave from the base station on the Ölüdeniz road and carry you over the cedar forest to the top of the mountain. The Blue Lagoon, Belcekız Beach and the Gulf of Fethiye open up beneath you one after another on the way up.

The line is not a single hop. There are stations at 1200, 1700 and 1800 metres above the base, and your ticket lets you get off and back on at every one of them, so you can break the day up at your own pace. At 1200 there is a walking trail through the cedars, a children's playground and an open-air theatre; at 1700 a viewing terrace built for watching the sunset; at 1800 a path running into the forest.

The last stretch is different: an open chairlift takes you from the 1800 station up to the summit, and it costs nothing extra. Treetops below, the Mediterranean straight ahead — this is the part most guests end up photographing. At the top you'll find the paragliding launch ramps, pilots getting ready to fly, and on a clear day a view that takes in the whole of Fethiye.

Every station has its own restaurant or café — Anatolian cooking at one, grills and burgers at another, a more relaxed menu at the summit. The temperature drops noticeably as you climb, so bring a light jacket even in midsummer. We arrange the ticket; getting to the base station is up to you. It sits right on the Ölüdeniz road, so it is only a few minutes from Ölüdeniz, Hisarönü and Ovacık.

FAQ

Do I have to paraglide to go up?

No. The cable car is a standalone activity — you can ride up, take in the view, eat, and come back down in the same cabin. We run a separate paragliding tour for those who do want to fly, and the two can be combined on the same day.

Does it run in winter?

The facility operates year-round, but hours are shorter out of season. Strong wind or heavy fog can temporarily stop service to the upper stations; if that happens we move your booking to another day.

How cold is it at the top?

Colder than most people expect. The difference between sea level and the summit is usually 10-15 degrees, and the wind makes it feel sharper still. Even in mid-August, bring a light jacket or windbreaker.

I'm afraid of heights — can I still do it?

The cabins are fully enclosed and glazed, which most guests find perfectly comfortable. The open chairlift section is optional: you can stay at the 1800 station and enjoy the view from there instead of continuing to the summit.

Can we bring children?

Yes, the cable car suits all ages. Children under 7 ride free but are not allowed on the open chairlift for safety reasons. Children aged 8-12 may use the chairlift only when accompanied by an adult.

How much time should I allow?

Straight up and down takes about 1.5-2 hours. If you want to stop at the stations, walk a little and eat, allow 3-4 hours. Guests who pick the sunset session usually stay longer.

Is there food at the stations?

Yes. The 1200, 1700, 1800 and summit stations each have their own restaurant or café. This spend isn't included in the tour price, so bring a card or cash. Nothing but water may be taken inside the cabins.

What's the best time of day to go up?

Mornings are usually clearer, which is better for long-distance views. For photographs the sunset session stands out — the lagoon and the bay turn orange as the sun drops. Both slots fill quickly in high season, so book early.

How do I get to the base station?

The base station is on the Ölüdeniz road, between Ovacık and Ölüdeniz. Getting there is up to you — this activity does not include a hotel transfer. It is a few minutes' drive from Ölüdeniz, Hisarönü and Ovacık, and around half an hour from central Fethiye. Dolmuş minibuses and taxis serve it easily, and there is a car park on site.
